MASS, based in Little Paxton St Neots, is celebrating its 35th anniversary. The company was formed in 1983 to supply the UK defence industry with Mathematical and Associated Scientific Services, which gave the company its name. Originally founded by four partners, MASS has grown into a leading provider to the intelligence and security markets of services, technology and products which secure and exploit data to provide significant operational advantage.
Throughout the 1980s MASS grew steadily, and expanded from offering pure consultancy to developing services and solutions. The company also developed capabilities in technical areas such as analysis, mathematic modelling, design, development of bespoke systems and RF test and evaluation.
Due to winning prestigious managed IT contracts including highly secure MOD business, this period of history saw the company develop a solid reputation for providing technically demanding projects to very short timescales.
Acquired by Cohort plc in 2006 – a parent company of innovative SMEs operating in defence and related markets – MASS continues to thrive, innovate and provide customers with an agile, world-class and trusted service.
MASS is also a dedicated employer of ex-military personnel, being part of the Armed Forces Covenant ensuring the workplace is a suitable environment for ex-military personnel as well as reservists. Over the past two years MASS and its staff have sponsored and participated in half marathons, sky-dives and bake sales raising over £8500 for a variety of armed forces charities including SSAFA, Royal Air Force Charitable Trust, the Poppy Appeal and Combat Stress.
